CX19

"The CX19 is a true offshore boat with just the right hull shape for fishing or family outings. The generous freeboard and the classic sheer are also tried and true features contributing to seaworthiness. This boat will negotiate both head and following seas with ease."

It took an hour to epoxy each length of tape. The tape was precut to length and labelled. The weight of each length of tape was recorded. It took about 100g of epoxy to precoat the hull before laying the tape. The outline of the tape was marked using coloured markers with a thin plastic template with slits cut into it. An equal amount of epoxy resin in weight was mixed in ice cream container for each length of tape. The tape was then saturated on the wet out board and rolled onto a short length of broom stick. This will be made a larger diameter and have handles for taping the keel and transom. It was too slow to roll up the tape. The new gloves worked well pressing the tape onto the hull. They are expensive $40 per hundred but were worth it when also used with cheap gloves. Also used cheap disposable brushes with the bristle length cut in half.

Thumbnails 28 : Inside hull fillets completed. Will be lightly sanded before applying tape.

Explaining the plan! Half way And finally the right way up!

Thumbnails 24 : A very big thank you to my friends and family that came and helped out on the big day to flip "One Day". It amazingly went to plan and happened so quickly I could not believe it could be that easy. The rollover jig worked perfectly and am now just waiting for the trailer on order to arrive.

Thumbnails 23 : I made some tracks to roll out the jig and hull. Was a mission but I actually moved it out from shed on my own on the last day of my holidays.

Thumbnails 22 : One last coat of graphite and primer on the sides. Will finish painting when final colour and design has been decided. Somehow I think the sides will be red.

Thumbnails 21 : Sanding primer. I made some flexible sanders for the wet and dry paper out of a foam fubber swing seat and a plastic sheet(1mm). I used Bostik spray adhesive to glue them together. The wet and dry paper was also glued to the plastic backing sheet and then trimmed. Mineral Turpentine cleans off the adhesive ready for the next sheet. Works very well but the ultimate adjustible flexible sanders are by AFS Sanders in the USA. I will be getting some when these diy's wear out. I can use one sheet of 180 grit paper for all the primer now in a four hour session.

Thumbnails 20 : The first coat of primer on.

Blogging templates!

This is my first attempt at trying to get this template to look like the old site. I will get there and at least it can replace my old wiki. So still a lot of information to migrate over and then I can tidy up the template a little more!

I hope it has not been too inconvenient. I do get quite a few people looking at the site, so hopefully this will perform a little better than the old one in the back office!

Happy boat building,
Gerry
